With 63% of homeowners planning to make improvements or start new projects in their outdoor spaces this year, the Aussie love affair is not waning.
Adbri Masonry’s annual Great Australian Backyard Survey found that there was a 41% increase in homeowners who want to improve their outdoor spaces.
Many homeowners see investing in their outdoor space as an investment that adds value to their home. According to the survey, 47% of homeowners consider a kitchen remodel to be the best. However, 32% believe that renovations to the outdoor space and garden landscaping add the most value to their home.
Outdoor areas are not like a kitchen remodel, which can be done in one go. The results of the survey were listed below.
1. PATIO/ENTERTAINING AREA
Many homeowners now pay as much attention to outdoor entertaining spaces as they do their interiors. An outdoor space should have both hard surfaces and green plants, be protected from the elements, as well as be comfortably furnished. Many patios include state-of the-art lighting and kitchens. This can be a costly outdoor project but it will add living space to your home.
2. GARDEN LANDSCAPING
It is easy to transform your garden with new vegetation. This will immediately improve your home’s street appeal. Be careful not to spend a lot at the nursery and then find out that your plants will die in a few months. When it comes to gardening, be thorough. Test your soil, look at local gardens, speak to nursery staff, and, best of all, hire a landscape architect who will design a customized plan for you.
3. DRIVEWAY RESTORATION/REPLACEMENT
A neglected driveway, whether it’s concrete cracks or dirt, will degrade the appearance of your home. You should be creative when making your driveway a focal point. You have many options to make your home stand apart from the rest, including white gravel, recycled wood sleepers and colourful pavers.
4. GARDEN BEDS
Raised garden beds are a popular design feature. This landscaping feature allows for you to create enough space for both green planting and paving. Because the soil retains nutrients and water drains well, they are great for growing plants. For instructions on how you can make your own, see the video below.
5. POOL/SPA
A pool or spa is a great way to enjoy life. A pool or spa can add value to your home and provide years of enjoyment. Be aware that buyers might not be interested in this feature, particularly if it is a nuisance. Before you decide to take the plunge, think about how the feature can be attractively integrated into your backyard.
