Apartment. Finger Wharf has been shortlisted for a multitude of awards this year including;

Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards Kitchen of the Year 2016 - Finalist
Australian Interior Design Awards 2016 - Shortlist
NSW Institute of Architects Awards 2016 - Shortlist
Houses Awards 2016 - Shortlist
TIDA Awards - Australian Bathroom of the Year 2016 - Shortlist

On Friday evening Architect Prineas was awarded a commendation from the NSW Chapter of the Australia Institute of Architects for Interior Architecture. This is what the Jury said:

At the intimate scale of a single apartment, this project by Architect Prineas illustrates the transformative power of good design. The existing, commercially driven layout suffered from a range of problems; poor connectivity to its extraordinary harbour setting, prosaic detailing, flimsy construction and low ceilings all worked together to create a sense of dull claustrophobia.

The refurbishment flips each of these challenges to its advantage. Like a glossy black magic box with golden brass fittings, the new interior opens up or closes down to connect or divide rooms, views and uses, expanding and contracting ones sense of the space available. The use of shiny finishes generates an ambiguity between inside and out through the reflection of light and image. Subtle shifts in level further act to draw the inside out and the outside in. All come together in a beautifully detailed and experimental manner to create this small architectural gem.

Many thanks to our clients and our wonderful team led by Eva-Marie Prineas including Luisa Campos, Bridget Webb, Connect Constructions and Finch Projects.

Apartment. Finger Wharf is also featured in this month's Belle Magazine.

House Elysium also received a Commendation on Friday evening from the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects for Heritage Architecture - Creative Adaption. This is what the Jury said;

This original house has been cleverly modified into a sophisticated urban retreat suited to a busy family in the 21st century. The complicated plan has been reconfigured with clarity to open up the house and create lofty internal spaces that are generous, inviting and precisely resolved. The clean lines and fine detailing of the new work offsets the decorative elements of the original house from the ornate entry through to a modern multilevel extension and backyard pavilion. The Project demonstrate the adaptability of historic Sydney terrace for contemporary dwelling.

The master bedroom is particularly spectacular taking over an original bedroom with the insertion of a mirrored box accommodating double basins, large shower and toilet. The respect for the original house is most clear in this room where walls are untouched by the stark new elements.

The precise and streamline quality of the design responds to the family client and is an exemplar for modern urban living.

Record 14

MAY 2016

With Mother's Day this Sunday, we thought we'd share some of the things we thought would be perfect for our mums.

1.  L O C A L  .  Two Good Care from the Two Good Co.

The Two Good Co. have brought out their latest product Two Good Care, which provides a beauty pack to Women's refuges for every pack sold. Inspired by the story of a young women, who spoke of her experience in a refuge "The day I arrived at the refuge I was handed some basics, shampoo, conditioner, soap. I was grateful to receive them as I had arrived without my own toiletries. The thing that touched my heart about it was they were wrapped in cellophane with a pretty purple bow. This small act of kindness was so pivotal in my healing". The pack includes shampoo, conditioner, hand & body wash, and face & body moisturiser. The new product forms their Mother's Day campaign with the donated products being delivered to Women Shelters throughout NSW on Mother's Day. Click here to find our how to purchase yours.

2.  V I S I T .  Heavy Artillery at the White Rabbit Gallery (Photograph by Jacqueline Lindeman)

Spending time with your mum on Mothers Day is a great way to spoil her! We recommend the current exhibition "Heavy Artillery" at the White Rabbit Gallery in Chippendale. Jacqueline recently enjoyed the exhibition with her Mother. Pictured above is the work "Density 1-6" by Lui Wei, "A highlight for both myself (Jacqueline) and my mum". The minimal work enlarges art to monumental proportions. The work is made up of a number of volumes that seek to explore the quality and nature of urban life. The volumes themselves are made from cut and compressed books on a wood and steel frame. The audience is able to appreciate the detail, pattern and texture of the surface from both the near and far. You can conclude your visit to the White Rabbit Gallery with Dumplings at the gallery's Tea House, it was "a lovely way for us to debrief the exhibition and take time out together over a delicious meal!" (Jacqueline). Find Out more here

3.  T A S T E  .  The Rabbit Hole, Organic Tea Bar

If you prefer something sweet following your Gallery trip try hopping down to the Rabbit Hole, Organic Tea Bar to sample their delicious teas and one or two of their many sweet treats. Pictured here are their tea infused shortbread - the extensive menu created by Cristy Adrian (Formerly of the QVB Tearoom). The Rabbit Hole is a contemporary experience of a tea room; "People expect tea houses to be a certain way, with lace dollies and fancy vintage teapots and that's not us" Says Corinne Smith (Co-Owner) "We want to redefine what you thought you knew about teas."

4.  L E A R N .  The School, Workshops

Another Great way to spend time with mum or give her some time out, is to spoil her with a class from The School. Gift Vouchers or Class Vouchers can be purchased for Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane (making it a great gift for intestate Mother's as well). With Classes ranging from Styling workshops, Business Classes to Extreme Knitting, Candle Making, Shibori, Florography and Screen Printing. If there is too much choice you can purchase a Gift Card for mum to spend as she chooses. Gift Vouchers come with the very adorable ceramic fortune Cookies (pictured above) by Karen Morton. Purchase your gift here

5.  P R O D U C T.  The Goods Tube

Who knew Andrea Bocelli's family was famous for wine? Read the story on the Bocelli family vineyard here. This Goods Tube comes with a bottle of Prosecco, a candle and some delicious nougat. If you're lucky you might also receive a signed copy of Andrea Bocelli's new album Cinema. The perfect gift for Eva-Marie's Mother-In-Law. She will be chuffed!

7.  D O.  Tidy your Bedroom. (Photograph of House. Koller by Brett Boardman)

If all else fails, or your mum is like Bridget's Mum, all she really wants for Mother's Day is a tidy bedroom! The silver lining of this present is it's very easy to organise and free. It may take a little bit of time depending on how messy you are, but in the end you'll have made her day. Pictured above is the beautifully tidy bedroom of Mila at House Koller, with any luck it will be looking this good for Ariana on Sunday. This post also applies to Eva-Marie’s boys… ;)
